27 Dec SC Memorial Reef Partners With Stevens Towing
Stevens Towing based based in Yonges Island, SC is partnering with the South Carolina Memorial Reef project to provide materials, logistical support and design/construction guidance to get the Reef built and delivered on site by June 2013.
In addition, Stevens Towing is providing the South Carolina Memorial Reef their construction yard and lay down areas for storage of donated materials and is furnishing the labor and equipment to offload and prepare these materials for integration into the reef design. The company is donating 2 260′ barges and a 100′ tower crane to get the efforts started.
The design of the reef is the work of maritime engineer Robert L. Horner, PE who is working closely with the South Carolina Reef committee, the SCDNR and Stevens Towing to design a structure that will provide the needed vertical relief and also be in keeping with the goal of the South Carolina Memorial Reef while providing a structure that will be able to “hit the mark” for the projected 350′ depth that will be the reef’s final resting place.
This is an exciting time for the South Carolina Memorial Reef. We have moved from a “grassroots” effort of a few to the combined efforts of a team of maritime professionals that share our commitment to get the reef built and placed in 2013.
We still have a large financial need and your donations and support are greatly appreciated.
